Lecture Notes-


  • A search engine is a web-based application that crawls the internet usually from the textural information contained on them.

  • Probelms with search engines are that they arent very specific in finding what you want and usually come up with alot of hits.

  • Directories are human- edited wheres search engines work algorithmically

Four Strategies For Searching That Will Help You Find What You Want:




  1. Use inverted Commas Around Your Search eg. "Tiger"

  2. Be specific when searching eg. EPL instead of english league

  3. Use the boolean search style eg. Jaguar - car instead of jaguar not car

  4. Use advanced search functions to narrow the info down




Results

Summary on what i learnt-

I learnt to use the inverted commas and key phrases for all of the questions which helped me out for all of them so it was very effective. I have learnt that the information given on the net through google and wikipedia isnt reliable enough for univeristy and that when searching for something i need to break it down and use the various strategies to find what i want.

Also informs the viewer about search tool types such as search engines and directories with the differences between the two. The site provides a vast strategy to fnding what you want on search engines and the ifnroamtion that goes into searching the net.

Search Engine Optimisation -

Provides a very large amount of information on how to use search engines to their full capability but only by paying. This company site "websight" allows paying members to reek the benefits of them performing a website analysis to see if your small business is ready for search engine optimization.
